*(32) If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.*
Here\'s a way to understand John 13:32-and it\'s a verse that becomes incredibly rich when you slow down and look at each phrase.
Understanding John 13:32
\"If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.\"
This statement comes right after Judas leaves the room.
1. \"If God is glorified in Him...\"
\"Him\" = Jesus.
Jesus is saying:
In My suffering, obedience, and sacrifice, the Father is being glorified.
How?
The cross reveals God\'s holiness (sin must be judged) - Rom 3:23-26
The cross reveals God\'s love (He gives His Son) - Rom 8:31-39
The cross reveals God\'s justice and mercy meeting together
The cross reveals God\'s faithfulness to His promises - (Luk 24:46-47) Then He said to them, \"Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, (47) and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
So Jesus\' death is not a defeat-it is the moment when God\'s character shines brightest.
2. \"God will also glorify Him in Himself...\"
Jesus says: The Father will glorify the Son with His own glory.
This refers to:
Resurrection - God vindicates Jesus - Eph 1:18-23
Ascension - Jesus returns to the Father - (Heb 1:3) who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Exaltation - Jesus seated at the right hand - (Act 7:55-56) But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, (56) and said, \"Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!\"
Restoration of divine glory - \"the glory I had with You before the world was\" (John 17:5)
In other words: The cross is not the end; it is the doorway to glory.
3. \"And glorify Him immediately.\"
This is Jesus\' way of saying:
The process begins now. The moment Judas walks out, the countdown to glory begins.
The \"immediately\" refers to:
The arrest
The trial
The crucifixion
The resurrection
The ascension
All of these are one continuous movement of divine glory.
Joh 17:22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
Jn 17:4-5,
Heb 1:1-3 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, (2) has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; (3) who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Rev 21:22-23, 22:1, 3
The coming together of Eternity with Time and Space
The hour has come (Joh 12:23-24) But Jesus answered them, saying, \"The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. (24) Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
*(Joh 13:33) Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, \'Where I am going, you cannot come,\' so now I say to you.*
*Little Children* - John uses this term several times to refer to the church. This is a most endearing. loving and affectionate way to look at the church (Mat 18:3) and said, \"Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
(1Pe 2:1-2) Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, (2) as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
(Mar 10:14-15) But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, \"Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. (15) Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.\"
(Luk 1:17) He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, \'TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS TO THE CHILDREN,\' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.\"
(1Co 14:20) Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.
