(Welcome to my website: valentinedavidar.in)
Acts 16:8-9 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. (9) And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."
Writing to the Corinthians in the context of Troas, Paul offers a profound truth. II Corinthians 2:12-17 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord, (13) I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I departed for Macedonia. (14) Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. (15) For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. (16) To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? (17) For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
It was as he departed from Troas to Macedonia that he made this known to us, this phenomenal lesson.
In all our movements, we are led in triumph in Christ. Whatever may be our circumstance, we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:35-37 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? (36) As it is written: "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE KILLED ALL DAY LONG; WE ARE ACCOUNTED AS SHEEP FOR THE SLAUGHTER." (37) Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
This triumph in Christ is what causes us to be witnesses for Christ before the world. Psalm 106:47 Save us, O LORD our God, And gather us from among the Gentiles, To give thanks to Your holy name, To triumph in Your praise.
As we live our lives in triumph in Christ, our lives become a fragrance of the knowledge of God in every place. Colossians 1:5-6 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, (6) which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth;
We are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and to those who are perishing. Thus, the Lord can smell the fragrance of Christ in us, but this fragrance of Christ to God in us is what causes us to stand before those who are saved and those who are perishing. Ezekiel 20:41 I will accept you as a sweet aroma when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered; and *I will be hallowed in you before the Gentiles.
Our fragrance is the message of the cross or the Gospel. I Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Our lives, as the fragrance of Christ to God, cause two different and opposite responses from people. John 9:39 And Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.". This is the same role for us as disciples of Christ.
Our lives as the fragrance of Christ to God will cause those who do not see to see and cause those who see to be made blind. This is why the religious leaders were angry with Jesus. We will face the same reactions from people around us. John 9:40-41 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?" (41) Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains.
Here are the two responses from people because of our lives as the fragrance of Christ. I Peter 2:7-8 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE," (8) and "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
This is the essence of our fragrance of Christ before God. II Corinthians 4:2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
Troas was a significant place, as we received this truth from Paul here.
