THE RESPONSE OF THE CHURCH TO THE WORLD
THE RESPONSE OF THE CHURCH TO THE WORLD - Acts 4:23-28
(Act 4:23) And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.
(Act 4:18) So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
(Act 4:19-20) But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. (20) For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."
(Act 4:24) So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: "Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,
Worship of God
(Jer 10:10-12) But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation. (11) Thus you shall say to them: "The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens." (12) He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion.
(Act 4:25-26) who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: 'WHY DID THE NATIONS RAGE, AND THE PEOPLE PLOT VAIN THINGS? (26) THE KINGS OF THE EARTH TOOK THEIR STAND, AND THE RULERS WERE GATHERED TOGETHER AGAINST THE LORD AND AGAINST HIS CHRIST.'
(Isa 40:23-24) He brings the princes to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth useless. (24) Scarcely shall they be planted, Scarcely shall they be sown, Scarcely shall their stock take root in the earth, When He will also blow on them, And they will wither, And the whirlwind will take them away like stubble.
(Act 4:27) "For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together
(Joh 16:33) These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." / (Mat 10:22) And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
(Act 4:28) to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.
1. Suffering purifies our faith - (1Pe 1:6-7) In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,(7) that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
2. He is forming His character in us - (Rom 5:3-4) And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; (4) and perseverance, character; and character, hope. / (Gal 4:19) My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you,
3. We must share in His suffering so that we can share in His glory - (1Pe 4:13) but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. / (2Co 4:17) For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,
4. Suffering separates the true church from the false - (Mat 13:20-21) But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; (21) yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.
5. Suffering displays God's power in us - II Cor 4:6-10
6. Suffering advances the Gospel - (Php 1:12) But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,
7. God reveals His power in those who persecute His church - (Rom 9:17) For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, "FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I HAVE RAISED YOU UP, THAT I MAY SHOW MY POWER IN YOU, AND THAT MY NAME MAY BE DECLARED IN ALL THE EARTH."
