Acts 16:7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.

Let us pick up our study from where we left off yesterday. Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.

We need a discerning heart to hear the Spirit of God, so that He may guide us in His ways. This requires humility and brokenness. Isaiah 66:2 For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist," Says the LORD. "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.

Have we come to the place of trembling at His word...above all else? This is crucial for we often come to God for our needs to be met...not to ask to know His word and to obey. There is nothing greater in this life but to live by His word. If we think we know what we need to do, then we are not being in the place where the Lord can direct our path. Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

The greatest blessing that we can have in life is to be taught by the Lord. Psalm 25:9 The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. How sad it is that we are not inclined to be taught by the Lord, though we speak these words from our lips. Isaiah 29:13 Therefore the Lord said: "Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,

We must desire to be taught by the Holy Spirit. Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness._ The Lord is longing to teach us His ways. We must learn from Him. Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

The ways of the Lord are not cumbersome. I John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. / Matthew 11:30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

The voice of the Holy Spirit will always be in alignment with the Word of God. John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. / Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

The leading and the direction of the Holy Spirit will always display the character and nature of God. James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

There is a peace that passes all understanding that settles in our hearts as we seek the direction of the Holy Spirit. Philippians 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The ways of the Holy Spirit are sanctification. John 16:8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: / II Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,

The leading of the Holy Spirit will cause us to be strengthened in our inner man. Ephesians 3:16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,

One strong evidence of the leading of the Holy Spirit will be our increased love for God and love for people. Ephesians 3:17-19 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, (18) may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height- (19) to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. / Romans 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

The voice of the Spirit of God is confirmed by God's assurance in many other ways. Genesis 41:32 And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
