Acts 16:10 Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.

It was at this point of the narrative that Dr Luke joined Paul and his team. Troas was a medical and commercial centre, where Luke was based. In all probability, Paul and Luke would have built their acquaintance because of Paul's physical ailments. Galatians 4:13-14 You know that because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at the first. (14) And my trial which was in my flesh you did not despise or reject, but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. Luke joined Paul's team to journey to Macedonia. It was an important and necessary decision, considering Paul's frequent illnesses.

Luke is grouped with the Gentile co-labourers with Paul. Colossians 4:12-14 Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. (13) For I bear him witness that he has a great zeal for you, and those who are in Laodicea, and those in Hierapolis. (14) Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you. The previous group, whom Paul refers to, are from the circumcision. Colossians 4:10-11 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, with Mark the cousin of Barnabas (about whom you received instructions: if he comes to you, welcome him), (11) and Jesus who is called Justus. These are my only fellow workers for the kingdom of God who are of the circumcision; they have proved to be a comfort to me.

Luke was a Greek and a highly qualified man. Loukas is a Greek name. The Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts are written in the finest Greek, with medical vocabulary, historical precision, and Greco‑Roman literary structure.

The two letters of Dr Luke, the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles were written to a Greek audience, to a Greek named Theophilus. Explanation of Jewish customs and festivals was given, which would not have been necessary had he been writing to a Jewish audience. (Example: Luke 22:1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover.)

Luke wrote two personal letters for one man with precision. Luke 1:1-4 Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, (2) just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, (3) it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, (4) that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.

Luke records several conversions, both in the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, but pointedly omits his own. This tells us that he already belonged to the inner group with Paul. Philemon 1:23-24 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you, (24) as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow laborers. Luke was with Paul till the very end of his life. II Timothy 4:11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry.

Just as the ministry expanded to Europe, the Lord added Luke to the team. The Lord brings the right people at the right time into the ministry for His purposes. When Moses was setting up the tabernacle according to all the specifications that the Lord had given, he needed the right man for the job, and the Lord gave Bezalel. Exodus 31:1-3 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: (2) "See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. (3) And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

As the team moved from Asia to Europe, the Lord brought together a strong team. Initially, it was Paul and Silas. Timothy joined the team in Derbe and Lystra, and now the Lord brought a senior, wise leader into the team, and this was Luke. When we are faithful, the Lord gives more abundantly. Matthew 13:12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

We see that Luke joined the team in Troas, but suddenly, from _Acts 16:18_ Luke is not with the team. Luke rejoins the team later. Acts 20:5-6 These men, going ahead, waited for us at Troas. (6) But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days joined them at Troas, where we stayed seven days. This suggests that during this period, Luke had stayed in Philippi to strengthen the church. This church in Philippi, which was the mother church for the growth of the Gospel in Europe, was nurtured by Dr Luke.
