06 – 28Feb2022 – Resurrection is transformative - Luke 24:01-08 - JESUS HAS RISEN - Bible reading: Luke 24:44-49
“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You rose again. Since You rose again our entire life has meaning and purpose. We give You all the glory and praise and in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
Luke 24:4-8 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. (5) Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? (6) He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, (7) saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.' " (8) And they remembered His words.
The Lord, throughout His ministry here on earth, had spoken and taught His disciples about His crucifixion, death, burial and His resurrection (Luke 9:22, Luke 18:31-33) Now that resurrection had taken place, it is indeed strange, how these women, who had been with Him, had not registered the message of resurrection.
When we read about all that the Lord did and taught, we must read it from the perspective of resurrection. When we look at the life of Jesus from the perspective of resurrection, then everything comes alive to us.
This was what the Lord told His disciples when He met with them after He rose again.
Luke 24:44-49 Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."
It is not only the Gospels but all of scripture must be read through the eyes of resurrection. Resurrection is transformative.
The Word of God is not some good pithy philosophical statements that we appreciate. Our entire life comes alive because Jesus rose from the dead.
(45) And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
Jesus was opening their understanding and He was enabling them to look at scriptures from the reality that He is alive. New energy and enthusiasm begin to flow through our veins because we are seeing God’s word from the perspective of resurrection.
(46) Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, (47) and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Since we have the understanding of resurrection, we share the message of repentance and remission of sins with people, who are lost and in darkness. If there is no resurrection, the message of repentance and remission of sins had no relevance.
We saw that we are now called to be priests and kings for God because of resurrection. We bring people to be priests and kings by preaching the message of repentance and remission from sin.
(48) And you are witnesses of these things.
We are witnesses to the message of resurrection. Our life of being resurrected in Jesus is infectious and people are drawn to open their hearts, repent and receive remission from sin and enter into the life of resurrection with us.
(49) Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high."
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of resurrection. He fills us with His power.
Ephesians 1:19-20 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power (20) which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,
The Lord wanted the disciples to tarry in Jerusalem to be endued with the power of the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of resurrection so that they will be able to go out and preach the message of repentance and remission of sins to people.
Looking once again at those two disciples, on the road to Emmaus, the Lord was reprimanding them and not allowing them to wallow in grief.
Luke 24:25-26 Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! (26) Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" (27) And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
The Lord was concerned for these disciples. He wanted them to see that He was the risen Lord and He wanted them to welcome resurrection for themselves.
Let us embrace resurrection, wholeheartedly and say, “Jesus, I don’t want that old life anymore. I want to live in the fullness of Your resurrection”.
When we understand and embrace resurrection, we see the full picture of Jesus. This understanding is transformative. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit of resurrection, we are no more the same old person but we become a person on fire for the Lord and His kingdom.
