The Gospel core
Acts 15 – Series 1/Episode 65 – Fri, 27th Mar 2026 – *The Gospel core* - _Acts 15:01-21_ – THE JERUSALEM COUNCIL – _I Corinthians 15:01-04_
_Acts 15:19-21 *Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God*, (20) but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood. (21) For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.\"_
*…we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God…*
Paul writes to the church in Galatia, confronting another Gospel. _Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, (7) which is not another; but *there are some who trouble you* and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. (8) But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. (9) As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed._
*What was the Gospel that Paul preached?*
_I Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you *the gospel which I preached to you*, which also you received and in which you stand, (2) by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. (3) *For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, (4) and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures*,_
We receive this Gospel of Jesus by faith. _Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (9) not of works, lest anyone should boast._
This is the plan of salvation that the Lord has prepared for us. _Romans 3:24-26 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, (25) whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, (26) to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus._
This work of salvation that Jesus provided for us on the cross was done once and for all time. _Hebrews 10:12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,_ / _Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified._
We are counted as righteous before God by faith in Jesus. _Romans 4:5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,_ / _Philippians 3:9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;_
Justified by being counted as righteous before God by faith in Jesus, we are now reconciled with Him. _Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life._ This is God’s love for us. _Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us._
Let us now consider the three parts of the Gospel. The first is faith in the death of Jesus on the cross. We account ourselves to be crucified with Christ. _Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me._
There is no room for the self when we come to Christ. _Colossians 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God._
Secondly, we are buried with Christ. Burial, which is baptism, is the end of the old man and the rising of the new man in Christ. _Colossians 2:12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead._
In the Great Commission, the Lord commanded us to baptise people. _Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, \"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (19) Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, *baptizing them* in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.\" Amen._
Lastly, resurrection is living out the life of Christ in our mortal flesh by His Holy Spirit. _Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you._
```Faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus constitutes receiving the Gospel.```
