Do not drift away

📖 Hebrews 2:1-4
28th Mar 26 | 10:06

(Heb 2:1-4)  Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. (2)  For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, (3)  how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, (4)  God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?

(Heb 10:26-31)  For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, (27)  but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. (28)  Anyone who has rejected Moses\' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. (29)  Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? (30)  For we know Him who said, \"VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,\" says the Lord. And again, \"THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.\" (31)  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

The role of angels

(Deu 33:2)  And he said: \"The LORD came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came with ten thousands of saints; From His right hand Came a fiery law for them. / (Gal 3:19)  What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.

(Act 7:51-53)  \"You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. (52)  Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers, (53)  who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it.\"

(1Pe 1:10-12)  Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, (11)  searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. (12)  To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.

God is just – received a just reward

(Deu 32:4)  He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He. / (Psa 89:14)  Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.

(Col 2:14)  having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. / (Rom 3:24-26)  being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, (25)  whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, (26)  to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Walk by faith not by sight - (2Co 5:9-10)  Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. (10)  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Signs and wonders

(Act 14:3)  Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

Lest we drift away

(2Pe 1:8-15)  For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9)  For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. (10)  Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; (11)  for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (12)  For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. (13)  Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, (14)  knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. (15)  Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.
