Acts 16:16-18 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. (17) This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, "These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation." (18) And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out that very hour.
Paul commanded the evil spirit in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of the girl, and the spirit came out that very moment. This is the authority of Jesus over all rule and authority. Ephesians 1:18-23 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, (19) and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power (20) which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, (21) far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. (22) And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, (23) which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
God's right hand represents the executive part of God's power and authority. Jesus executes the purposes of God over all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. All things are placed under the feet of Jesus, and Jesus is made head over all things to the church.
If only we, the church, would take this truth into consciousness, we would be commanding the works of darkness to vacate places that the devil is holding in captivity, and he will flee. James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
When we sinned against God, we came into the captivity of death over which the devil has power. Jesus took on flesh to defeat the devil, set us free and bring us from death to life. Hebrews 2:14-15 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, (15) and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
How did this take place? Colossians 2:14-15 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. (15) Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
What stood against us before God was the righteous requirement of the law. Jesus fulfilled the righteous requirement of the law in His flesh. Hebrews 10:5-10 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU DID NOT DESIRE, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME. (6) IN BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES FOR SIN YOU HAD NO PLEASURE. (7) THEN I SAID, 'BEHOLD, I HAVE COME-IN THE VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME-TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.' " (8) Previously saying, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING, BURNT OFFERINGS, AND OFFERINGS FOR SIN YOU DID NOT DESIRE, NOR HAD PLEASURE IN THEM" (which are offered according to the law), (9) then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD." He takes away the first that He may establish the second. (10) By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Believing in Jesus gives us righteousness. Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Having completed this requirement before God, Jesus has released us from the captivity of the devil. We are set free to reveal the wisdom of God to the rulers in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 3:10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,
We are those who take authority over the devil and bring the rule of God here on earth. Matthew 16:18-19 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (19) And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
