The preaching model of Philip
04 – 20Dec2023 – *The preaching model of Philip* - _Acts 08:05-08_ - PHILIP PREACHES IN SAMARIA – _I Corinthians 02:04-05_
_Acts 8:6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did._
There was the power of God being demonstrated through the preaching of Philip. His preaching was through a transformed life. He was preaching Jesus as the Christ. *Miracles accompanied his preaching*.
These three need to take place in our preaching.
A Transformed life
Jesus as the Christ
Miracles
Miracles took place as Philip preached because the Lord brings joy where there is sorrow. _Psalms 98:4-9 Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises. (5) Sing to the LORD with the harp, With the harp and the sound of a psalm, (6) With trumpets and the sound of a horn; Shout joyfully before the LORD, the King._
Where there is the work of His Holy Spirit there will be the restoration of all things that have fallen apart because man rejected, rebelled and has gone his own way. _Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; *We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all._
Our rebellion has been laid on Jesus. Jesus bore this rebellion on the cross, on our behalf. _I Peter 2:24-25 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. (25) *For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.*_
*When we come to Jesus at the cross, we come to Him acknowledging and repenting of our rebellion and choosing to go our own way.* This sin, Jesus has taken on Himself and settled it for us on the cross. He died, buried, and rose again. Therefore, we are now fully restored when we come to Christ.
This is the reason why, _by His stripes, we are healed_. As people turn to Christ, healing and restoration to the fullness of joy are normal outcomes.
The Gospel message is the message of restoration to the fullness of joy. _Isaiah 61:1-3 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; (2) To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, (3) To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, *The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness*; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."_
This is why our preaching must be joyful and must bring joy. If we preachers have no refreshing in us, if we are not experiencing the fullness of the joy of the Lord in us, how can we bring deliverance and joy to those to whom we preach Christ?
We find that people heeded the message of Philip *with one accord*. It seems that the people were ready and prepared for the message of Philip.
This must be our prayer as we go out to preach Christ to the people. We must pray that they will all be prepared and ready so that when they hear the message of Jesus, they will all respond and turn to the Saviour.
Our preaching is not about convincing people with human wisdom. _I Corinthians 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, *but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power*, (5) that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God._
Our preaching is the work of the Holy Spirit. It is a spiritual engagement that we are undertaking when we preach Christ. We therefore must engage the enemy and take authority. We must authoritatively vacate the place of evil spiritual presence and bondages as we preach Christ. _II Corinthians 10:3-6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. (4) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal *but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, (5) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ*, (6) and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled._
The minds of people need to be open and ready to receive the message of God. The devil blinds the minds of people to keep them in darkness. _Acts 26:18 to open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'_
