10 – 26Dec2023 – *Sorrow and sighing will flee* - _Acts 08:05-08_ - PHILIP PREACHES IN SAMARIA – _Isaiah 35:10_

__Acts 8:7-8 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. (8)  And there was great joy in that city._

Philip preached the message of Jesus in Samaria and he did miracles. There was great joy in the city.

The Christmas message is the message of joy. We have this joy in Jesus though our circumstances present us a non-joyous picture. This joy that we have in Him is for the present and what He is preparing for us for eternity. We find it very difficult to imagine a place where all this gloom will vanish away and it will be replaced with everlasting joy. Yet this is the truth.

This is the everlasting joy that awaits the ransomed of the Lord. _Isaiah 35:1-10 The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; (2) It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, Even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, The excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, The excellency of our God. (3)  Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees. (4)  Say to those who are fearful-hearted, "Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you." (5)  Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. (6)  Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert. (7)  The parched ground shall become a pool, And the thirsty land springs of water; In the habitation of jackals, where each lay, There shall be grass with reeds and rushes. (8)  A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray. (9)  No lion shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, (10) And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away._

What awaits us is a physical new creation. We will be in a new body suitable to flourish in the new creation that God has prepared.

_II Peter 3:10-13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. (11)  Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, (12) looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? (13)  *Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.*_

We are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth, which will be made up of new elements and these new elements will be governed by God’s righteousness. This is the reason, why we as the people of God must bring His righteousness into the elements that we now handle, though we know that they are passing away.

I say this because some feel that we have nothing to do with this present creation since it is vanishing away. Let us be alerted that this time here, on this existing creation, is preparation time to exercise God’s righteousness with the elements of this current creation. We are being made ready and prepared to handle the task of bringing His righteousness into His new creation.

We, therefore, strengthen the feeble hands and the weak knees. We say to those who are fearful, looking at what awaits us in the year ahead, “Our Lord will come with vengeance and He will repay with His wrath those who have troubled us and persecuted us.”

We can see that the new creation is physical and beautiful. Keeping our eyes on our sure destination, we live our lives here on earth, with purpose, completing the task that the Lord has given each of us.

The new heaven and the new earth are made up of holiness. This is why we exercise ourselves in holiness. _I John 3:2-3 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. (3)  And *everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure*._

We come with singing into Zion and sorrow and sighing will all flee away. _Revelation 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."_
