Sat26Jun2021 - *Whoever has to him more will be given* - _Luke 21:34-38_ - WATCH AND PRAY VI (06) – Bible reading: _Matthew 13:10-17_
The Lord is calling us to have a hunger and thirst for His word, to have a deeper understanding of the things of God. The Lord is looking for those, who will not only seek to understand the things of God but will also apply these eternal principles into their lives and experience the results of His kingdom.
_Luke 21:37-38 And in the daytime He was teaching in the temple, but at night He went out and stayed on the mountain called Olivet. (38) *Then early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple to hear Him*._
_John 8:1-2 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. (2) *Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them*._
People came to Jesus, *early in the morning*, to hear His words and be taught by Him. This shows the eagerness and longing that the people had for the matters of God’s kingdom. The Lord too was more than willing to teach people who had such a passion for the words of eternal life.
It is for those who are hungry for God's word that the Lord reveals the matters of His kingdom.
We see an interesting situation developing after the Lord had taught the multitude, the parable of the sower and the seed and the four different types of soil.
_Mark 4:10-12 But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable._
The general public had heard the parable but a small group came to Jesus and wanted to know the deeper meaning of the parable.
_(11) And He said to them, "*To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables*, (12) so that 'SEEING THEY MAY SEE AND NOT PERCEIVE, AND HEARING THEY MAY HEAR AND NOT UNDERSTAND; LEST THEY SHOULD TURN, AND THEIR SINS BE FORGIVEN THEM.' "_
This is an astonishing statement from our Lord. We know that Jesus came to forgive people of their sins and heal people’s lives. Yet, we see here that the forgiveness of sins is being denied to people. Why is this so?
When people do not want to understand and apply the deeper things of God into their lives. If people come to God to hear only what they want to hear. If people come to God expecting to get blessings and benefits, then this is what will happen to them.
They will not perceive nor understand the things of God and frighteningly, their sins will not be forgiven them and they will not be healed.
_Matthew 13:10-17 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" (11) He answered and said to them, "*Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given*._
These are the ways of God and aren’t they baffling? The mysteries of the kingdom of God are made known only to those who have an eagerness and desire for the deeper matters of God. To those who are satisfied with a superficial understanding of the things of God’s kingdom, all things will remain an enigma.
_(12) For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him._
This is even more mysterious. For those who are hesitant to come to a deeper understanding of the things of God, even the little understanding that they have will be taken away from them. Nevertheless, to those who hunger for the things of God, they will be given more and they will have understanding in abundance.
_(13) Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. (14) And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: 'HEARING YOU WILL HEAR AND SHALL NOT UNDERSTAND, AND SEEING YOU WILL SEE AND NOT PERCEIVE; (15) FOR THE HEARTS OF THIS PEOPLE HAVE GROWN DULL. THEIR EARS ARE HARD OF HEARING, AND THEIR EYES THEY HAVE CLOSED, LEST THEY SHOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, LEST THEY SHOULD UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEARTS AND TURN, SO THAT I SHOULD HEAL THEM.' (16) But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; (17) for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it._
If people are determined to prefer the things of the world to the things of God, then this prophecy will be fulfilled on them. This is not what God desires but this is what will and is taking place in the lives of many.
As Jesus taught the parable of the sower, to the multitude, He began with the word. ‘Listen’. The Lord longs for people to come seeking to listen, hear His words and apply His words into their lives.
_Mark 4:3 “*Listen*! Behold, a sower went out to sow.
_Mark 4:9 And He said to them, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"_
After explaining the meaning of the parable of the sower and the seed, this is how the Lord concludes His teaching to the few, who were eager to learn.
_Mark 4:23-25 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear." (24) Then He said to them, "Take heed what you hear. *With the same measure you use*, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given. (25) *For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him*."_
What is the measure that we use to appropriate the things of God? It is according to the measure that we use, that we will receive, but to Him who has, He will be given in abundance.
*Thought to ponder*
```Isaiah 55:9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.```
