*FRIEND OF GOD*

20Jun2021 - *Set apart for Jesus* - _Luke 21:29-33_ - WATCH AND PRAY V (06) – Bible reading: _II Peter 3:7-14_

The Lord is calling us, in these last days, to live a life that is holy and set apart for Him.

Heaven and earth will pass away but His words will not pass away. Since this is the crucial matter for us, how important it is for us to live wholly for Him and not be entangled with the world and the flesh?

_Luke 21:29-33 Then He spoke to them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. (30) When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. (31) So you also, when you see these things happening, know that *the kingdom of God is near*. (32) Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. (33) *Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away*._

We have understood the significance and the meaning of the budding of the fig tree. We have understood that this analogy represents, not just the physical return of the Jews to their homeland and their establishment as a sovereign nation, but this represents the spiritual awakening amongst the Jews. It is the Jews accepting and surrendering to Jesus, as the Messiah.

We are witnessing this, just in the last few years, that more and more Jews are accepting Jesus as the Messiah, just as it was happening in the early church, which we read in Acts of the Apostles. We are also beginning to see that the Jews, who have turned to Jesus in Israel, are being persecuted by the rest of the Jews.

What then should be our focus as the church of Jesus?

Our life needs to be set apart for the Lord.

_II Peter 3:7-14 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. (8) But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. (9) The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance._

_(10) But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. (11) *Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness*, (12) looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?_

_(13) Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. (14) Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, *be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless*;_

We are called to be diligent, to be found in peace, without spot and blameless. Living this life of holy conduct and godliness will hasten the coming of the day of the Lord.

This is Apostle Paul’s testimony.

_I Thessalonians 1:5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as *you know what kind of men we were among you* for your sake._

_I Thessalonians 2:10 *You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved* ourselves among you who believe;_

_II Corinthians 1:12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that *we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity*, not with fleshly wisdom but *by the grace of God*, and more abundantly toward you._

For us to live this life of godliness, the empowerment does not come from us but it is God’s divine power, the work of the Holy Spirit, from within us that enables us to live holy lives.

_II Peter 1:3-4 as *His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness*, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, (4) by which have been given to us *exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature*, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust._

In our world, there is great pressure to succumb to the lust of the flesh and the lusts of the world.

How do we live lives that are set apart for God? It is the work of the Holy Spirit from within us that empowers us to live victoriously over the lusts of the flesh.

We can be partakers of God’s divine nature, not in a sterile environment, but in an atmosphere, where sin is at the door. This is the personal experiential knowledge that each of us can have these days.

_Romans 8:4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us *who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit*._

The mighty Holy Spirit works in and through us.

_Galatians 5:16 I say then: *Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh*._

Let us be ready for the coming of the Lord, for all things will pass away but His words will not pass away.

*Thought to ponder*

```Are you giving yourself to being set apart for Jesus?```
