LUKE 19 1-10 SEEKING TO SAVE THE LOST 24 The task of the church
08Dec2020 - *The task of the church* - _Luke 19:1-10_ - SEEKING TO SAVE THE LOST 24 – Bible reading: _Revelation 20:12-15_
_Luke 19:10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."_
Our responsibility as the Church is to present Christ to people so that they will cross over from death to life. If man rejects God now, while he lives for a very short period of time here on earth, what awaits man is the second death.
Therefore, this matter of crossing over from death to life is urgent for the one who is lost and urgent for the church, for if we do not seek to save the lost now, nothing can be done later to bring the ones who are lost into a fellowship with the King.
What is the second death? Many do not like to talk about hell and some even consider that this is not a real place but an imaginary one. Let us see what the Bible has to tell us about hell.
_Revelation 20:12-15 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. (13) The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works._
_(14) *Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death*. (15) And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire._
This place, the lake of fire, which is the second death, was not intended for man but for the devil and his angels. The Lord does not want anyone to go to this place but that man must repent and submit to the lordship of Christ, in order to escape the second death.
_Matthew 25:41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:_
Let us look at the residents of hell.
_Revelation 19:20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone._
_Revelation 20:10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever._
This is the reality that people need to know, however difficult it may be for people to stomach the description of the lake of fire and its dwellers, which is the second death.
The sad situation is that the majority in the world are not willing to accept their condition of death and think that somehow, they do not need a physician. When they hold this position, their sin remains
_John 9:39-41 And Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind." (40) Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?" (41) Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains._
_Matthew 9:11-13 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" (12) When Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. (13) But go and learn what this means: 'I DESIRE MERCY AND NOT SACRIFICE.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."_
Man must come to God, plead for His mercy, receive His pardon and surrender to the lordship of Christ.
People do not want to plead for mercy. They feel that they are well and are willing to offer sacrifices to God but seeking mercy from God, is too demeaning and belittling. By not seeking God’s mercy and repenting, man’s sin remains.
People are currently in the stage of the first death. This is the only opportunity for man to seek God’s mercy and return back to God. Soon this opportunity will come to an end and then they will have to face the second death.
Those of us who have experienced salvation ought to so live and do all that we can possibly do, to save others from the wrath of God that awaits those who have not received the forgiveness of sins through the work that Jesus did on the cross.
*Thought to ponder*
```This work of seeking to save the lost has to be done by the church for we are those who were lost, were sought and were found.```
