Luke 18 1-8 Persistent prayer of faith 12 Endure to the very end
08Sep2020 - *Endure to the very end* - _Luke 18:1-8_ - PERSISTENT PRAYER OF FAITH 12 – Bible reading: _Revelation 3:14-18_
_Luke 18:8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"_
Why is the Lord raising this question of faith, about us? This is truly a crucial matter with the people of God. We have come to Jesus but yet the world clings to us in so many different ways that our faith in Jesus is affected. _Matthew 24:12-13 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. (13) But he who endures to the end shall be saved._
What is it that causes us, as His people, to grow cold in our love for Him? What is the caution? What must we do to ensure that we do not fall into this trap of coldness and lose our faith in Jesus?
There are three areas in our life that we need to be cautioned about. _Mark 4:18-19 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, (19) and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful._
The first area of caution is the cares of this world. What are the cares of this world? These are the factual matters of everyday life that occupies our thoughts and we are often troubled and anxious about them. We also have the tendency to convert these matters into matters of prayer and so it seems that the only reason for our prayer is for our everyday survival. We must learn to hold these issues, lightly, realising that God is in control.
_Luke 14:18-20 But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.' (19) And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.' (20) Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'_
The second area of caution is the deceitfulness of riches. Money has the ability to win our hearts. The devil has hoodwinked many of us that when we refer to, the blessing of God, we sub-consciously mean financial or material wellbeing. We won’t verbalise it but that is our implication, both by those who vociferously preach the blessing of God and those who run after these messages.
Will we stop and allow God to heal us at the very core of our being that we will truly seek Him and Him alone. This healing at our core is only possible with God and we can only be healed if we acknowledge that we have an attachment to money, in the heart, and we desire to come out of its trap.
_I Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some *have strayed from the faith* in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows._
If you realise that YOU don’t even want to let go of money, ask the Lord to help you be released.
_Revelation 3:14-18 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, 'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: (15) “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. (16) So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. (17) Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— (18) I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see._
The third area in our life, where we need to be alerted, are our desires for other things or the love of the world.
_I John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (16) For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (17) And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever._
The antidote not to fall in love with the world is the will of God. It is the will of God that we must seek after, at all points of decisions in life. The will of God will counter the world.
*Thought to ponder*
```May we be men and women of persistent prayer of faith. Amen```
