Luke 17 3-6 Faith and relationships 14 Prayer and fasting
10Jul2020 - *Prayer and fasting* - _Luke 17:3-6_ - FAITH AND RELATIONSHIPS 14 – Bible reading: _Ephesians 1:19-23_
We will look at one more important matter in relation to the mustard seed of faith. This is the matter of *prayer and fasting*.
The disciples were concerned as to why they were not able to cast out the evil spirit from the boy. _Matthew 17:19-21 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?" (20) So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. (21) *However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting*."_
The spirit world is real and well structured. The Lord is calling us to have faith as a mustard seed but at the same time let us be mindful that the engagement that we are into is spiritual in nature.
_Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places._ This is the engagement of the church as we are sent into the world _(John 17:18)_ Even as we are sent into the world the Lord has prayed for us to be kept from the evil one. _(John 17:15)_
As we participate in the challenges of our world, we are here to stand in the gap on behalf of the land and bring God’s healing into our circumstances. This task calls for us to encounter powers of darkness and spiritual hosts of wickedness. Realising the opposition that is against us, we will need to fast and pray in order to bring in the healing of God into our situation. _Daniel 9:3 Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes._ When we read the ninth chapter of Daniel we see the agony that Daniel went through to see deliverance taking place, for which he had to fast and pray.
_Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—_
While entering into our task here on earth, which is to reconcile all things back to God, we must know that the enemy, who has caused the alienation of all of creation, has been defeated at the cross and man to whom the responsibility to rule over God’s creation was given, has been reconciled with God. _Colossians 2:15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it._
This is the position of Jesus, to whom the church belongs. _I Peter 3:22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him._
The plan of God is to wage war against the powers of darkness through the church. _Ephesians 3:10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,_
_Ephesians 1:19-23 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power (20) which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, (21) far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. (22) And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, (23) which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all._
The church is the fullness of Christ, who fills all in all. Knowing to whom we belong, knowing that we have been restored to the place of authority to be God’s regents over God’s creation and knowing that our enemy has been defeated, we are to now go forward in the fullness of Christ.
The mustard seed of faith becomes very real as we live out the truth.
*Thought to ponder*
```Will the church awaken to her glorious position in Christ and exercise the mustard seed of faith?``
