07Aug2020 - *Filled and overflowing with the Living Water* - _Luke 17:11-19_ - SURRENDER, THANKFULNESS, GRATITUDE AND WORSHIP OF GOD 14 – Bible reading: _Deuteronomy 8:2-3_

_Luke 17:19 And He said to him, "Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well."_

The Samaritan leper was both cleansed from his leprosy and he was also made well from within. This wellness was because he was filled with Jesus.

This is why Jesus came. _John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly._ He came that mankind may have life and life which was abundant. The physical healing or our circumstantial challenges being resolved may happen or may not happen but our wellness is not dependent on the resolving of these issues but our wellness comes from us being filled with Jesus. This is the nourishment of our soul. In Him, it is truly well with our soul.

This is what the Lord gave to the woman who was a sinner, who came and repented and washed the feet of Jesus. _Luke 7:50 Then He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."_ Not only was she saved but she was now sent with the Shalom or the fullness of God.

The woman who was healed of the issue of blood was also blessed with the same blessing. _Luke 8:47-48 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. (48) And He said to her, "Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace."_ She was healed of the issue of the blood but that was not the final solution for her. She now went with the Shalom of God.

Blind Bartimaeus too had the same blessing. _Luke 18:41-42 saying, "What do you want Me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, that I may receive my sight." (42) Then Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well."_ Bartimaeus did not receive his sight alone, he was made well from within. He was well in his soul.

Our physical challenges are the places, where the Lord reaches us and uses them to cause us to seek Him. Sadly, we are so caught up with the physical and circumstantial challenges of life and we come to God, repeatedly, crying to Him to resolve these issues. The Lord longs for us to be filled with Him and have the wellness of the soul.

This was the lesson that the Lord longed for the Israelites to learn from their journey in the desert. _Deuteronomy 8:2-3 And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. (3) So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD._

The Lord desired for them to know that man does not live on bread alone. Bread represents the physical needs of life. The Lord yearned for them to know that man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. Our fulfilment and our wellbeing are in being nourished by Jesus Himself.

After the feeding of the five thousand, the people sought Jesus because they had eaten of the loaves and were filled with their physical needs being met. They were, therefore, seeking Jesus as a constant and regular source for the satisfying of their bread needs. This is what the Lord told these people.

_John 6:26-27 Jesus answered them and said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. (27) Do not labour for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him."_

Isn’t this our problem? We are labouring for the food that perishes and we are convinced that in the meeting of our bread needs, we will be fulfilled. The Lord is asking us to labour for the food that endures. To seek for our nourishment in Jesus alone, knowing that in so doing we will be well at our soul.

The teaching of Jesus was difficult for many of His disciples that they went away from Him. _John 6:66-68 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. (67) Then Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also want to go away?" (68) But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life._ Praise the Lord for Simon Peter. He knew that in Jesus alone there is the wellness of the soul.

_John 4:14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."_ This wellness of our soul, which we have only in Jesus is what nourishes us and it also becomes a spring that overflows from within us, into many parched lives, around us.

*Thought to ponder*

```Is it well with your soul?```
