03May2020 - *Homes, where God resides* - _Luke 16:18_ - Bible reading: _II Corinthians 6:14-18_

_Malachi 2:15-16 But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. (16) "For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one's garment with violence," Says the LORD of hosts. Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously."_

_Luke 16:18 “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery._

Let us consider one more matter within the covenantal relationship of marriage. This is a matter in relation to raising a godly generation. We said that the covenantal relationship of our marriage should result in raising captains for the kingdom of God and for His righteousness, in our world. We must also help our children in finding their companion for life.

We read that Ezra the priest was angry with the people of God that they had married people from amongst those, who did not know the ways of God. _Ezra 9:4 Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel assembled to me, because of the transgression of those who had been carried away captive, and I sat astonished until the evening sacrifice._ We see this same anger being expressed by Nehemiah in _Nehemiah 13_.

Why were they angry? Ezra and Nehemiah were in tune with the heart of God. _Jeremiah 2:21 Yet I had planted you a noble vine, a seed of highest quality. How then have you turned before Me Into the degenerate plant of an alien vine?_ God’s concern and longing are that godly generations would fill the earth and influence people for His kingdom and His righteousness. Are we as parents in tune with the heart of God, when we assist our children in deciding who their spouse will be?

Again, what we see so often is that materialism, and worldly priorities have taken precedence in choosing the life partner and then we have the boldness to give the whole matter a spiritual cloak. Does God not know? What is the result? The marriage has not lasted for too long or even if the marriage is still in place, it is in a sad situation.

_II Corinthians 6:14-18 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?_ The equality that we must look for is to see if this person is walking in the ways of God. We must find out if this person is walking in the light of God. _(15) And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?_ Righteousness is by faith and therefore the consideration is if this person is living a life of faith in God. Just by saying that the person is a ‘believer’ is a deception.

_(16) And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM. I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE." (17) Therefore "COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM AND BE SEPARATE, SAYS THE LORD. DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN, AND I WILL RECEIVE YOU." (18) "I WILL BE A FATHER TO YOU, AND YOU SHALL BE MY SONS AND DAUGHTERS, SAYS THE LORD ALMIGHTY."_ Our goal in choosing a spouse is that together they build a home, where God will have His residence.

God warns us of what will happen if we choose a life partner, who is not walking in the ways of God. _Deuteronomy 7:4 For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the LORD will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly._

*Thought to ponder*

```The world is in such a desperate dearth of godly generations.```
