Acts 16:14 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.
Lydia opened her heart to receive the Gospel. Yes, it was the Lord who was opening her heart, but her participation in what the Lord was accomplishing in her life was necessary. Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
There needs to be an eagerness in us to be ready and waiting to obey the Lord's instructions. Lydia was ready and eager to open her heart and receive the Gospel that Paul spoke. Luke 12:35-36 "Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; (36) and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately.
Our eagerness and willingness to open our hearts and obey Him show our love for Him. The inverse of this truth is frightening. If we are not willing to open the door of our hearts to Jesus to obey Him, then we do not love Him. John 14:21-23 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." (22) Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?" (23) Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
The Father will love such a person who opens his heart to keep His word. The Triune God will come in and make their abode in that person. Like Lydia, we must open our hearts to the Gospel.
Our hearts have to be in such a state that we are waiting to apply the word of God into our lives. Lydia was in such a state. As soon as the word of God was spoken, she responded and invited the Lord into her heart. Luke 12:37 Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.
Those who open their hearts to the Lord to receive Him and His word to be applied in their lives are the blessed of the Lord. The Lord will gird Himself, have them sit down to eat, and He will serve them. Lydia invited the Lord into her heart to have full control of her life. She immediately experienced the joy of the Lord, in the Lord making her sit down and He serving her.
The sad and tragic reality is that the world does not recognise its Creator. We have kept the Lord out of our hearts and lives. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. The Lord came to His own people, the Jews, and they did not receive Him then, and largely, they have not received the Lord into their hearts and lives even till today. John 1:11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
Nevertheless, to as many as opened their hearts and received Jesus into their lives, they have become the children of God. John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: / Galatians 3:26-29 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (29) And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
When we receive Jesus into our hearts, as Lydia did, we are born again by God, which is to be born of the word of God and the Spirit of God. John 1:13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. / John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Lydia opened her heart to Jesus, and she entered the kingdom of God.
