Life in the Holy Spirit
Acts 15 - Series 2/Episode 26 - Sat, 02nd May 2026 - Life in the Holy Spirit - Acts 15:22-35 - THE ANNOUNCEMENT - Romans 08:05-11
Acts 15:33-35 And after they had stayed there for a time, they were sent back with greetings from the brethren to the apostles. (34) However, it seemed good to Silas to remain there. (35) Paul and Barnabas also remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
Judas and Silas knew that their task in Antioch, both as ambassadors for the Jerusalem Council to deliver the verdict and as prophets, was completed. A chapter had been accomplished, and all those who were a part of this matter sensed the same.
How do we make decisions in life? Are we in the flow of the Holy Spirit in making the normal, regular decisions so that there will be harmony in our lives? Sadly, many of us live cluttered lives, and we are not rested. We are tense, anxious and stressed, which leads us to depression. What do we learn from the Scriptures?
Scripture teaches that a life led by the Holy Spirit produces clarity, rest, peace, and harmony, while a life led by the flesh produces anxiety, clutter, confusion, and unrest.
Romans 8:5-11 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. (6) For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. (8) So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. (9) But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. (10) And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (11) But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Our minds can either be under the control of the flesh or under the control of the Holy Spirit. This is the key. We must learn the practice of surrendering our minds to the Holy Spirit and be led by Him. We must learn to be in continuous, internal, heart and spirit communication with the Lord. We must remember that we were created as living souls. _Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being._ Without the enablement of the Holy Spirit, we are nothing but dust. Being in communion with the Holy Spirit is not optional; it is the basis for us to be living souls. This experience is what gives us stability in life at all times. Life in communion with the Holy Spirit is the life of Shalom.
Living in the flesh is death. The life lived in the flesh can never be in tune with God. This is where we blunder, for we are under the impression that we know the ways of God. We do not. It is the Holy Spirit who knows the mind of God and reveals and empowers us to be in tune with the mind of God. I Corinthians 2:10-12 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. (11) For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. (12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
If we are not being led by the Spirit of God, we do not belong to God. What was happening with Judas, Silas, and the church at Antioch was the experience of belonging to God. Should we not all be in this experience, all the time? Why do we see squabbling, contentions and wranglings among us? Are they not indicators that we are not living in the realm of the Holy Spirit, but we are living in the flesh?
This life in the Spirit of God takes into effect that we are 'dead' in terms of the flesh, but we are alive in our relationship with God, and this life is the life of righteousness. Righteousness is never contrived; it is lived out in the Holy Spirit. This is again a secret that many do not understand or experience. We are still driven by 'works' and not by grace. Romans 6:19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.
We present ourselves to God to be led by the Holy Spirit.
