Acts 16:10 Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.
What is the lasting change that the Gospel causes? The Gospel results in reconciliation with God. Colossians 1:19-20 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, (20) and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
God is restoring His shalom-the wholeness, peace, harmony, and right order-that was lost in the fall. This restoration is personal, relational, communal, and cosmic.
The chastisement for our peace came on Jesus. We have often limited the application of God's healing to our personal illnesses. Whereas God is calling for the healing of all things, in heaven and on earth. Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Our first reconciliation is with God. We were alienated from God, who is the source of fullness of life. Ephesians 4:18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; / We now have peace with God through Jesus. Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, It was because of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus that we are now reconciled with God. Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
The second reconciliation of the Gospel is our reconciliation with ourselves. We were once dead in our sins, unable to do what is good. Romans 7:23-24 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. (24) O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? The brokenness of our inner man because of sin is restored in Christ. Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. (2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
The third reconciliation that we have received is that we are now restored in our relationship with one another because of the Gospel. The primary divide between Jew and Gentile was settled at the cross. Ephesians 2:14-16 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, (15) having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, (16) and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.
We are a new community in Christ. Colossians 3:11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. / Galatians 3:26-28 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
We are now united with the union of the Triune God. John 17:21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
The fourth part of our reconciliation with God is that we are restored with creation. Creation is eagerly waiting for our reconciliation with God. Romans 8:19-22 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. (20) For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; (21) because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. (22) For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
We are restored with God so that we will once again co-rule with God, over all His creation. Ephesians 2:4-6 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, (5) even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), (6) and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
