📖 Luke 24:50-53

22 – 03Jun2022 – Be rested in God - Luke 24:50-53 - THE BLESSING OF GOD - Bible reading: Hebrews 4:9-11

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that we are in Your habitat. We have come to rest in You. Thank You, for enabling us to complete the study of the Gospel of Luke. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”

Friends, with this study, we conclude the study of the Gospel of Luke. The Lord has been with us throughout this study, which has taken us close to five years. We will now be starting the study of the Acts of the Apostles.

Luke 24:52-53 And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, (53) and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.

Belief leads to worship, which results in rejoicing. We have also understood that belief and walking in the ways of God are synonymous.

The disciples were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. What we understand here is that as we rejoice in the Lord, we are invited into the habitat of God. To be in the habitat of God is to be in His kingdom, where all our needs are met.

Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.

The Psalmist concludes the most famous psalm in the Bible, by being in the habitat of God. The habitat of God is the place of our rest. This is the Shalom rest of God.

Psalms 27:4-5 One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. (5) For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.

This must be the desire that each of us must have, which is to dwell in the house of the Lord. To dwell in His habitat. This has to be the single pursuit for all of us.

Acts 17:28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'

This is the Gospel message which is to be in Him, for He is our habitat.

I Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.

We find our rest in God.

Colossians 1:15-23 He (Jesus Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (16) For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. (17) And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.(18) And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (19) For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, (20) and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. (21) And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled (22) in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— (23) if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

The hope of the gospel is to be reconciled with Christ and come into His dwelling. We were alienated from God but the Lord is longing for us to be restored to Him and come into His rest.

Psalms 84:1-7 To the Chief Musician. On An Instrument of Gath. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. How lovely is Your tabernacle, O LORD of hosts! (2) My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. (3) Even the sparrow has found a home, And the swallow a nest for herself, Where she may lay her young—Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, My King and my God. (4) Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; They will still be praising You. Selah (5) Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, Whose heart is set on pilgrimage. (6) As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools. (7) They go from strength to strength; Each one appears before God in Zion.

When we are in the habitat of God, we go from strength to strength.

As we conclude this study of the Gospel of Luke, we conclude with the hope that we have in Jesus that we are being invited into His rest.

Hebrews 4:9-11 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. (10) For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. (11) Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

The Lord does not want anyone of us to miss the rest that He has purposed for us.

Thought to ponder

Is the rest of God your portion or are you caught up in fire-fighting the issues of life?
