08Apr2021 - *He who glories, let him glory in the Lord* - _Luke 20:27-40_ - HE IS NOT THE GOD OF THE DEAD BUT OF THE LIVING 20 – Bible reading: _I Corinthians 1:25-31_
We have come to the close of this study. We have seen that we need to always cultivate a heart of simplicity to internalise the matters of the kingdom. We belong to the living God. Our life has an eternal inheritance with God and that begins right now because of a heart of simplicity.
Many of the Jewish leaders believed in Jesus but they were afraid to openly declare that they were His disciples. The time has come for us to declare openly that we are disciples, yes, Doulos of Jesus. In Jesus there is life. We are not afraid, we are not reticent, we are not embarrassed, to tell the world, “in Jesus is life and that abundantly. We are His”.
*Luke 20:38-40 For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him." (39) Then some of the scribes answered and said, "Teacher, You have spoken well." (40) But after that they dared not question Him anymore*.
Let us look at this passage in _I Cor 1:18-31_
_I Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God._
The world considers the message of the cross as foolishness but for us, it is the power of God.
_I Corinthians 1:20-21 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? (21) For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message_ (the message of the cross) _preached to save those who believe._
The people of the world are frustrated for they have tried all routes to experience joy, fulfilment and deep rest but every route that they choose gives relief only for a while and then the haunting emptiness reappears. In Jesus, we have come to the source of joy and deep rest, for we live in Him.
_I Corinthians 1:25-29 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (26) For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. (27) But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; (28) and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, (29) that no flesh should glory in His presence._
Man thinks that he can achieve the fullness of life through his smartness and intelligence but the fulfilment that man is searching for, can only happen in coming to Christ, in the simplicity of a little child and in acknowledging that God is wise and He is life. This is where the fullness of God becomes our portion. This is what God longs for us to have.
_I Corinthians 1:30-31 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— (31) that, as it is written, "HE WHO GLORIES, LET HIM GLORY IN THE LORD."_
When we come to God in simplicity, brokenness, repentance, trust, in faith, what do we receive? We receive from God, wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption, which money cannot buy.
This was the problem of the Israelites, for they sought God, on their own terms.
_Romans 9:31-32 but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. (32) Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone._
The problem of the Jews has been of the self. The self within them has said, “We will work out our inheritance in God”. They did not come to God in the simplicity of childlike faith and dependence.
_Romans 10:1-4 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. (2) For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. (3) *For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. (4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes*._
When we come to Christ, we come to the fulfilment of righteousness before God. In believing in Jesus, we have righteousness.
_Matthew 8:11-12 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob_ (God who is living) _in the kingdom of heaven. (12) But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."_
The Israelites, who had the privilege of coming under the lordship of the living God, put Him aside. Those who put Jesus aside will be cast into outer darkness.

I would like to ask if God has spoken to you through this study? Are there lessons that you have internalised and brought into application into your life?
