19Mar2021 - *Praise the Lord for His wisdom* - _Luke 20:19-26_ - THE FOOLISHNESS OF THE CRAFTY LEADERS 16 – Bible reading: _Colossians 4:5-6_

We see a wonderful closure to this interaction between the leaders and with our Lord.

_Luke 20:24-26 Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?" They answered and said, "Caesar's." (25) And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." (26) *But they could not catch Him in His words in the presence of the people. And they marvelled at His answer and kept silent*._

Notice that they could not catch Him in His words in the presence of the people. Their agenda was to turn the people away from Jesus, turn the people toward themselves and also to have sufficient basis to destroy Jesus.

They did get to have Jesus crucified on the cross but we see what it has resulted for all of us. The leaders surely thought that they had achieved their objective of destroying Jesus but the cross was the place for victory and reconciliation for man and all of creation, with God.

_I Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "HE CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR OWN CRAFTINESS”; Job 5:12-13 He frustrates the devices of the crafty, *So that their hands cannot carry out their plans*. (13) He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them._

_Matthew 22:22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left Him and went their way._ The Lord’s enemies actually marvelled at the wisdom of His answer.

This is the Lord’s promise for us. _Luke 21:15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist._

We must realise that for us to respond to crafty people, with God’s wisdom, we must be totally dependent on Him, for we naturally operate in the flesh. If we answer out of our flesh, then the whole episode will turn ugly and we will have to spend much time and energy in getting back on our feet again.

Stephen was fully dependent on the Holy Spirit and it was the Holy Spirit, who gave him wisdom. _Acts 6:10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke._

_Colossians 4:5-6 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. (6) Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one._

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all of us were to walk always in the Holy Spirit and in wisdom so that our words are gracious, seasoned with salt? The devil trips us up and makes us react out of the flesh when we are in a tight situation.

So, let us learn from this experience of our Lord and walk in the Holy Spirit, which will result in us responding with wisdom.

Paul calls us to be clothed with Christ, which is what walking in the Holy Spirit is all about. _I Corinthians 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, *who became for us wisdom from God*—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—_

The Holy Spirit always lifts up Christ. _John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you._

Though man’s mind is finite and limited and from our restricted knowledge and understanding, we have the audacity to challenge and question God, yet He is compassionate towards us, knowing that we are dust.

_Psalm 103:14 For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. Psalm 144:3-4 LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him? (4) Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow._

Man ought to always look to God and know who He is.

_Isaiah 40:12-15 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance? (13) Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has taught Him? (14) With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding? (15) Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, And are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing._

As we conclude this study, we stand amazed at His presence and we give Him all the glory.

_Luke 13:17 And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him._

*Thought to ponder*

```We fall at His feet, in worship.```
