Luke 16 19-31 Released from self cetredness 36 The word must become flesh in us
08Jun2020 - *The word must become flesh in us* - _Luke 16:19-31_ - Bible reading: _I Thessalonians 1:5-6_
_Luke 16:29-31 Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' (30) And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' (31) But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' "_
Abraham is responding to the plea of the rich man to send Lazarus to his brothers, to his father’s house so that they will repent. It is interesting as well as important to note that the rich man very specifically chose to use the word ‘repent’ as the one requirement that will prevent his brothers from coming to this place of torment, where he was.
_II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance._
It is frightening to see the deception of the devil once again here, to the body of Christ. We have sought to do away with repentance in the church. We have consigned repentance to the world but for us as the church, we are being taught that since Jesus has done it all for us, we do not need to repent anymore.
Friends, let us be warned of this heresy. Yes, Jesus has covered us with His righteousness before God but as we live here on earth, in this earthly tent, we do struggle with our self that rebels against the ways of God. Every time we see the flesh in us, acting up, we must repent and take it to the cross to be crucified with Christ.
Abraham is telling the rich man that his brothers have Moses and prophets. They should listen to them. God’s word is available to the world and to the church. The world and the church cannot simply claim that they have no revelation of God’s word. It is out there in the open but man has chosen to ignore God’s word and carries on in his own individual philosophy of living life.
_I Thessalonians 2:13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe._ God’s word will bring change, when a person believes.
Yes, the word is available to people but God chose to come in the flesh so that the world can touch, can feel, can examine and ascertain the word and believe. _John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth._
This is who we are as the church, in the world. We are here to bring God’s word in the flesh, in our lives. We are here to be the manifestations of the truth. _II Corinthians 4:2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God._
Paul and the team demonstrated the word becoming flesh as they ministered in Thessalonica. _I Thessalonians 1:5-6 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. (6) And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,_
When Paul and the team brought the word to be flesh in them, the Thessalonians received the gospel and the Thessalonians, in turn, set the same model and people of the whole region turned to Christ. This is what the Lord desires for us to bring about in our generation. The church must bring the word in the flesh, unceasingly.
We see that this was how Paul trained Timothy. _Philippians 4:9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you._
We have concluded the story of the rich man and Lazarus. The word must be flesh in us so that we do not finish as the rich man but let us be those, who will live out the word so that we warn and turn many others from ending their life like the rich man.
*Thought to ponder*
These days of crisis the world over is to refine the church and call the church to repentance.
