Luke 16 1-13 God's Regents 15 Living in the realm of the Holy Spirit
03Apr2020 - Living in the realm of the Holy Spirit - Luke 16:1-13 - Bible reading: Romans 8:5-9
Luke 16:13 “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."
We simply cannot afford to think and fool ourselves that since we are involved in Christian activity, we are God’s slaves. We must break clear from mammon. It would be dreadful that at the final accounting, we are found to be slaves of mammon and not the slave of God. We must choose to be slaves to God and that begins with a decision and must continue all through life.
Mammon will seek to enslave us and this attack on us will come through the flesh, which we considered yesterday. The aggression from satan will come through the mind that is driven by the flesh. The onslaught on us, to be slaves to mammon, will also from the world. The world, the mind and the flesh, all controlled by the devil, will come at us and so we need to be equipped to deal with this hostility.
Romans 8:5-9 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Realising that the mind will be driven by the flesh, we must yield our minds to be driven by the Holy Spirit. When we received Jesus into our lives, the Holy Spirit has come in but He will operate through us to the extent that we invite Him to. Our desire ought to be to eagerly give more of ourselves to the Holy Spirit to control and direct us.
(6) For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. The Holy Spirit-controlled mind will result in life and peace or the fullness of life. Why should anyone not want to live in the fullness of life? Yet, many of us hesitate to surrender fully to the control of the Holy Spirit.
(7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. (8) So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. (9) But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. It is only when we are led by the Holy Spirit that we are being children of God. How the Father’s heart aches that there are many, who have received forgiveness of sin but are not living as His children. For by the flesh we cannot please God.
I John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (16) For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (17) And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
The world will also seek to enslave us to mammon. It is obedience to His word or to His will that will keep us from the trap of the world. We are in the world but we are of the Word. That is what makes us to be strangers and aliens here on earth. God is calling us to constantly live by His Word so that we will be slaves of God.
Thought to ponder
