11Feb2020 - *We must repent* - _Luke 15:8-10_ - Bible reading: _Luke 7:31-32_

_Luke 15:8-10 “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? (9) And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!' (10) Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."_

God had made all things well and complete and then we read that one coin was lost. This relates to man being lost. The whole of creation too is languishing because man is not fulfilling his responsibility of a regent/viceroy of God’s creation. God’s heart is breaking over His creation and He is on the task to bring man and all of creation back into a relationship with Him. As much as Jesus is the light, He has made us, His disciples to be lights in the world. Just as the woman lit the lamp, sought for the lost coin by sweeping the house and searched carefully, we too need to be doing the work of seeking and saving the lost, with much care. God’s joy is in man being restored to an intimate relationship with Him. This is His joy and He rejoices with us and with all of heaven, over the restoration of sinners back to Him.

We need to be friends of Jesus, who share with Him in His joy of finding and restoring the lost.

We, who call ourselves as disciples of Jesus, are not joyful in the joy of the Lord. We are seeking for our fulfilment and happiness in somethings else. We do not have an undivided heart. Our heart is cluttered, for we have many other pursuits in life and we pay lip service to the repentance and restoration of sinners back to God.

_Luke 7:31-32 And the Lord said, "To what then shall I liken the men of this generation, and what are they like? (32) They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: 'We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not weep.'_

What is it that is causing us to have a divided heart? There are two specific reasons that I would like to share, for the lack of our joy over the lost being restored to God. (There could surely be many more reasons). We must repent before God for these two reasons.

The first reason is that we have compromised deeply with the world. There is hardly any distinction between us and the world. Our choices and our day to day decisions are so in tune with the world. We live our lives in two compartments, the sacred and the secular. We have achieved a proficiency in living in these two compartments and we are hardly troubled about our dual life style. We must repent of our compromises, if we need to once again have the unadulterated joy over people being restored back to God.

_James 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God._

The second reason for our lack of joy over sinners being restored to God, is our pessimism. Our pessimism is because we live by sight and not by faith. Here again we have gained a proficiency of claiming to be ‘believers’ yet living a life that is sight based. This is has become a norm amongst believers. We tell each other that we need to be practical. We have therefore lost our joy and ended up being pessimistic. We must repent of our pessimism.

_II Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight._

*Thought to ponder*

```Are you free from these two reasons that is plaguing believers?```
