Luke 15 11-32 To seek and the save the lost - The prodigal son 37 Your brother
19Mar2020 - *Your brother* - _Luke 15:11-32_ - Bible reading: _Matthew 9:36-38_
_Luke 15:32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for *your brother* was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.' "_
Our Lord, Master, Father has called us, His people, His children, His Church to be one with Him in His concern. What is His concern? _Luke 19:10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."_ This is the concern of our Master.
We as the church are here on earth to fulfil His purpose. Our safety, our care, our protection, our future is all His responsibility. Yes, we must take precautions as advised but there is no need for us to panic and be anxious. If God is keeping us here, it is for us to accomplish His purpose and if we have to lose our life, then it is to be forever with the Lord.
From the very beginning, when man sinned and went away from God, God is seeking to restore man to the fullness of life in Him. The Lord chose Abraham and through Abraham, God chose an entire nation to be His emissaries and instruments to reconcile the whole world back to Him. _Romans 15:8-12 Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers, (9) and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: "FOR THIS REASON I WILL CONFESS TO YOU AMONG THE GENTILES, AND SING TO YOUR NAME." (10) And again he says: "REJOICE, O GENTILES, WITH HIS PEOPLE!" (11) And again: "PRAISE THE LORD, ALL YOU GENTILES! LAUD HIM, ALL YOU PEOPLES!" (12) And again, Isaiah says: "THERE SHALL BE A ROOT OF JESSE; AND HE WHO SHALL RISE TO REIGN OVER THE GENTILES, IN HIM THE GENTILES SHALL HOPE."_
God, who is restoring man and all of creation to Him, wants us, the church, to realise that they, who are far away from Him, are our brothers. This is what the father told his elder son, _*“…your brother…”*_. Whereas what the elder son told his father in _vs 30_ was, _“…this son of yours…”_. What a huge difference in attitude, in perception, in world view, between those two phrases!
As we conclude the teaching from this parable, let us take home this one enormous responsibility. The people in the world, who are lost, in fear, in confusion, in anxiety, are our brothers and sisters. We are responsible for them. We are our brother’s keepers. The church needs to be out there, in our different professions and places, at the crossroads of life, directing, guiding, helping people to meet and know their Creator and come back into the fullness of life, in Him.
_Matthew 9:36-38 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. (37) Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. (38) Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest."_
God’s heart is for labourers, who have His heart, His compassion and His pain for the weary and scattered, who are like having no shepherd. We have only one task here on earth, which is to be co-labourers with Christ, for our brothers and sisters, who are lost and need to be found, who are dead and who need to be brought back to life.
*Thought to ponder*
```The world is rushing around in fear, will you give yourself to be His labourer, for your brother and sister?```
