Acts 15 - Series 2/Episode 25 - Fri, 01st May 2026 - Exhorting and strengthening the believers - Acts 15:22-35 - THE ANNOUNCEMENT - Acts 14:22

Acts 15:32 Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words.

Judas and Silas were fulfilling their prophetic role for the church. They exhorted and strengthened the brethren. This is truly the substance of what takes place in the church. We need constant exhortation and strengthening. Why is this important?

We have been set apart as the church, but we live among a perverse generation, among whom we must shine as lights. Philippians 2:15-16 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, (16) holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. We need teaching and exhortation on how we ought to live among a perverse generation. Acts 2:40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation."

It is the word of God, by which we know the truth. John 17:15-19 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. (16) They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. (17) Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. (18) As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. (19) And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

The Lord has sent us into the world to be salt and light. Matthew 5:13-16 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. (14) "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. (15) Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. (16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

As we live in this world as salt and light, we are in the world, but we are not of this world. We are people of the truth. It is the word of God that guides us into all truth, but we need those who exhort and strengthen us, who will interpret the word of God for application in our current circumstances.

Exhortation and strengthening are needed for us to continue in the Lord. Acts 11:23-24 When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart *they should continue with the Lord*. (24) For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

Christian life is all about continuing with the Lord. It is a steady, disciplined, consistent walk with the Lord, however our circumstances may be. We need to learn the lesson of keeping our eyes on Jesus and not on our circumstances. II Corinthians 4:18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Crises are inevitable in life. These crises are working for us an eternal weight of glory. II Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, We need those who exhort and strengthen us to help us look at the Lord even as we go through challenges and trials in life.

Those who exhort and strengthen us are important for the church, for they are teaching us to continue in the faith. Acts 14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God."

The entire Christian experience is an experience of faith. We are cast on the Lord. It is He who is the anchor of our lives. Acts 17:28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'

We live and move and have our being in God. Colossians 1:15-18 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (16) For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. (17) And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. (18) And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Judas and Silas exhorted and strengthened the brethren.
