Prophetic role
Acts 15 - Series 2/Episode 24 - Thu, 30th Apr 2026 - Prophetic role - Acts 15:22-35 - THE ANNOUNCEMENT - Ephesians 04:11-13
Acts 15:32 Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words.
Judas and Silas were the ambassadors sent by the Jerusalem Council to deliver the letter to the church at Antioch and other churches. Judas and Silas had completed their assignment. They were also prophets. This was one of the reasons they were chosen by the Jerusalem Council to be their ambassadors.
The gift of prophecy is a special end-time gift for the Church. Acts 2:17-18 'AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS IN THE LAST DAYS, SAYS GOD, THAT I WILL POUR OUT OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL FLESH; YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS. (18) AND ON MY MENSERVANTS AND ON MY MAIDSERVANTS I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT IN THOSE DAYS; AND THEY SHALL PROPHESY.
God will pour out His Spirit on people, and they shall prophesy. People will be filled with the Spirit of God, and they will speak in the fullness of the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God is for man to repent and return to Him. Matthew 23:37-39 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! (38) See! Your house is left to you desolate; (39) for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'BLESSED is HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' "
God's heart breaks over the wickedness of Man. Matthew 24:12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. The wickedness of Man will cause the suffering of humanity and the destruction of God's creation. Matthew 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
God longs for the world to know that He has reconciled all things to Himself through the cross. Colossians 1:20-22 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. (21) And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled (22) in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight-
This is the Spirit of God on the prophets. The church has to be prophetic to the world, carrying the Spirit of God. II Corinthians 5:18-20 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, (19) that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. (20) Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.
The prophetic Spirit also encourages the body of Christ to continue in the Lord. Acts 11:23-24 When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord. (24) For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.
The prophets of God are those who will suffer much and experience persecution. Luke 11:49 Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,' As prophets, carrying the Spirit of God, we ought not to be troubled by persecution. Matthew 5:10-12 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (11) "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. (12) Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, *for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you*.
Here is a specific teaching for the prophets. Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith;
This is a call for the prophets not to pretend or imitate others. It is a call to humility, accuracy, and dependence on God. Here are some pitfalls that prophets must be watchful about. Overstated revelations, speaking beyond what God has truly given, pride or comparison with others.
Here is the overarching purpose of the Spirit of prophecy. Ephesians 4:11-13 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, (12) for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, (13) till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
Judas and Silas were prophets.
