Acts 16:4-5 And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem. (5) So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.
Obedience to the word of God is mandatory. When we buy a kitchen appliance, it comes with an operating manual. Can we disregard the manual and choose to operate the machine in any way we prefer? No. We all know what will happen. When the machine fails because we ran it our own way and not according to the manual, and we go to the dealer, complaining that the machine is faulty and needs to be replaced, will the dealer accept our request? No.
This is what the world and society are doing with God, who is the Creator, Owner and Sustainer of all things. We complain to God that things are not going well in life, as though God is to be blamed for the chaos in our world. *The world at large is living life by disregarding God's instruction manual, which is His word*, and we are experiencing the consequences of our own choices. We ought to be repenting before God for failing to obey the instruction manual of God to us, which is His word.
This is Jesus. When we look to Jesus, we must realise that we are looking at the One who has created all things. Colossians 1:16-17 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. (17) And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
This is how God sees humanity. Romans 1:18-22 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, (19) because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. (20) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, (21) because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (22) Professing to be wise, they became fools,
God longs to save us and heal us, but our sins have separated us from God. Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. (2) But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
We have brought all this calamity on ourselves, and it is because we have forsaken the Lord and have chosen to go our own ways. Jeremiah 2:17 Have you not brought this on yourself, In that you have forsaken the LORD your God When He led you in the way? / Jeremiah 2:19 Your own wickedness will correct you, And your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing That you have forsaken the LORD your God, And the fear of Me is not in you," Says the Lord GOD of hosts.
We have not grasped true knowledge, which comes from His word. We pursued the knowledge of the world. Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
The consequence of disregarding the word of God is calamity. We are experiencing calamity, and it is because we have not heeded God's word. Jeremiah 6:19 Hear, O earth! Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people-The fruit of their thoughts, Because they have not heeded My words Nor My law, but rejected it.
This is our consequence for rejecting God from our lives. Romans 1:28-32 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; (29) being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, (30) backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, (31) undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; (32) who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
The Lord is calling the world to repent and return to Him, for He will pardon and heal us. Joel 2:12-13 "Now, therefore," says the LORD, "Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning." (13) So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.
