Acts 16:6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.
It was simply a matter of God's timing that the Gospel first reached Macedonia before spreading to the rest of Asia and Bithynia. I Peter 1:1-2 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, (2) elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
The people of the areas of Asia and Bithynia were the chosen and the elect according to the foreknowledge of God. The Lord brought them in at His time according to His sovereign will.
Romans 8:29-30 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. (30) Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
God has appointed people for eternal life. This is challenging for the human mind to grasp. Acts 13:48 Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. We must rest under the sovereign plan and purposes of God. His ways are perfect and just. Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He. What He permits us to understand, we accept, but we leave the rest to His goodness.
The Lord opened the heart of Lydia to heed the things spoken by Paul. Acts 16:14 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.
Paul would have spoken convincingly, but it was the Lord who opened Lydia's heart to hear and receive the Gospel. We must prepare and present the Gospel with all that is in us, but it is the Lord who opens the hearts and minds of our hearers to receive the Gospel.
There were many people in Asia and Bithynia whom the Lord had prepared to receive the Gospel, but their time was yet to come. Are we to be earnest in sharing the Gospel, or are we to wait for God's timing?
God's timing is a reality, but this does not cancel out our task to be persistent in sharing the Gospel. Acts 19:10 And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
We must preach the word of God persistently, recognising that God's timing is also in operation. II Timothy 4:1-4 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: (2) Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. (3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; (4) and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
People must have the opportunity to hear the message, and it is for them to take a call to either accept or reject the Gospel. John 12:47-48 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. (48) He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him-the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
Our message of the Gospel is not to judge the world. We intend to save people and bring them to eternal life. Yet, the word which we have spoken to people will judge them on the last day.
We must preach the message of the Gospel to people so that they will repent and return to God. Acts 17:30-31 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, (31) because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."
God has chosen us even before the foundation of the world. Ephesians 1:4-6 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, (5) having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, (6) to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
