02 – 24Feb2022 – The resurrected life - Luke 24:01-08 - JESUS HAS RISEN - Bible reading: John 4:13-14

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You are inviting us to live in the wonderful realm of resurrection. We ought not to be living in any other sphere but in the resurrected life with You. We give You all the glory and praise and in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

Luke 24:1-2 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. (2) But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

I encourage you to read the article, in the link given below. This is a useful bridge between the burial and the resurrection of Jesus.

The women had prepared the spices on the preparation day, then they rested on the Sabbath. They were eagerly waiting for it to dawn on the day following the Sabbath so that they could anoint the body of Jesus.

This was the love, affection and respect that these women had for Jesus. These women had a significant role in the ministry of our Lord.

Luke 8:1-3 Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, (2) and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, (3) and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.

The Lord had made it known to His disciples that He would rise again.

Luke 9:22 saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day." Luke 18:33 They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again."

This physical resurrection of Jesus was not in the mind of the women and the disciples. They saw the death and the burial of Jesus as the end, in their relationship with Jesus.

We know that the enemies of the Lord were keenly aware of the resurrection and they dreaded what would happen if Jesus rose from the dead.

The women came sincerely to honour Jesus by anointing His body. Whereas, The Lord had prepared for them to experience the fullness of life.

We too are just like the women. We have experienced transformation but we are not expecting anything greater. We have resigned ourselves to the understanding that this is all there is to know, in our walk with God.

When we pass from the Gospel narratives and move into the life of the early church, we see a vast difference in the life of the disciples, including the women. This is the life in the Holy Spirit. It is to this life of resurrection to which the Lord is inviting each of us.

This is what the Lord told the woman at the well.

John 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, (14) but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

This fountain of water, springing up into everlasting life, is the resurrected life in Christ. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of resurrection.

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

This is the Lord’s message to us. “You want to honour and respect me. This is very good but you only consider me as someone who has blessed you and now am dead. I am no more dead but I’m alive. I want you to experience resurrection”.

Many of us think that a major shift is not possible in our walk with Jesus. Yes, we experience God’s blessing but that is where our relationship with the Lord ends.

Just like the women, we look at various challenges in life. The women were wondering how they will move the stone, to anoint the body of Jesus.

Mark 16:3-4 And they said among themselves, "Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?" (4) But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large.

As these women approached the tomb, they were shocked to see that the stone across the tomb was rolled away

Matthew 28:2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.

The rolled away stone, represents, God taking away all our perceived and real threats in our lives, and replacing them with His resurrection.

What are your perceived and real blocks that are preventing you from experiencing resurrection?

Will you come to Jesus and abandon yourself entirely on Him and say, “Lord. I do not want to live in mediocrity. I come to live the resurrected life in You.”?

The Lord is waiting to pour out His resurrected life upon the church.

Thought to ponder

The devil panics, when the dead bones come alive.
