_Luke 14:15 Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!"_

We have completed the study of _Luke 14:12-14_ on being a *friend of the poor*. We continue on with the next paragraph, where one of those, who sat with Jesus at this feast, makes a statement. We must remember that Jesus was invited by a ruler of the Pharisees, for a meal, and the rich were there, vying for importance and significance.

The statement made by this man, after hearing the teaching of Jesus, about being a friend of the poor, reveals that he was connecting the teachings of Jesus to the prophesies of the Old Testament of the inauguration of God’s kingdom, where the poor will reign with Him. He was right to this point but what he missed was that he did not recognize Jesus as the King in God’s kingdom. If he had recognized Jesus, his response would have been of worship. It was not, and that is the reason why the Lord gave the allegory, that follows.

The Jews, were the first, to whom the message was given first to come into God’s kingdom. He came to His own but His own did not receive Him. _Luke 13:29-30 They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God. (30) And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last."_

The Jews were the sons of the kingdom of God. _Matthew 8:11-12 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. (12) But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."_ The Lord wanted this Jewish audience to understand and return to Him but their response to Him was indifferent and unresponsive.

_Revelation 19:9 Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God."_ It is the greatest blessing that we need to appreciate, which is to be called to the marriage feast of the Lamb. _Revelation 19:7-8 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready." (8) And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints._ Our task as the Church, His bride, is to make ourselves ready and prepared for the marriage feast of the Lamb, where we will be co-rulers with Him.

_Luke 22:28-30 “But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. (29) And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, (30) that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel."_

*Thought to ponder*

What is your most eager hope? Is it to be part of the marriage feast of the Lamb?
