Acts 17 - Series 02/Episode 16 - Sat 24th Oct 2026 - God's calling - Acts 17:10-15 - MINISTRY IN BEREA - I Corinthians 01:26

Acts 17:11-12 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. (12) Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men.

Many of the Jews in Berea came to faith in Jesus. A miracle of faith takes place in the hearing of the word of God. Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. This is because God's word is inspired by the Holy Spirit. II Peter 1:20-21 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, (21) for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Scriptures bring about transformation. Psalm 119:130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. The law of God converts the soul. Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; God's word is spirit and life. John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

A person is born again by the word of God. I Peter 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, It is by the word of God that we resist sin. Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. We are cleansed by the word of God. Ephesians 5:26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,

We are being transformed to the image of Jesus by His Spirit and the word. II Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. / Acts 20:32 "So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

The word of God brought prominent Greek women and men to Christ. We have seen how the Ethiopian Eunuch turned to Christ. _Acts 8:27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship,_ / _Acts 8:36-39 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?" (37) Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." (38) So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. (39) Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.

Cornelius was converted. Acts 10:1-2 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, (2) a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. / Acts 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. / Acts 10:47-48 "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" (48) And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

We see the conversion of Lydia. Acts 16:14-15 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. (15) And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay." So she persuaded us.

People of different backgrounds turn to Christ. John 19:38-39 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus. (39) And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

Yet, the reality is, I Corinthians 1:26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
