Learn to be directed by the Lord
Acts 17 - Series 02/Episode 03 - Sun 11th Oct 2026 - Learn to be directed by the Lord - Acts 17:10-15 - MINISTRY IN BEREA - Isaiah 30:21
Acts 17:10 Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.
It could have taken Paul, Silas and the others two days or more to reach Berea. As soon as they arrived in Berea, they went to the synagogue of the Jews.
Nothing else mattered for Paul and the team except the Gospel of Jesus. Many people have this question. How do I balance relationship with God, my ministry, my family, my work, etc.?
Our text today largely answers this question. Our life is for God, and God's heart is that people must repent and be reconciled with Him. Colossians 1:20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. / I Timothy 2:3-4 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, (4) who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Our entire life is to be one with the heart of God. Mark 8:35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it._ We are here on earth to live for the Gospel. Does this mean that we do not have a life for ourselves? What about our family? Our work? Our leisure? Are these not valid?
It seems as though we approach God with the perspective on how to manage the different sections of our lives. So, our lives largely consist of the pursuit of successfully balancing our lives.
We must dare to come to the place of throwing ourselves entirely into the hands of God and live for the Gospel. Our relationship with Him is to know Him more. Philippians 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, We are in a deep love relationship with Him. Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."
It is in this deep, intimate love relationship with God that we are burdened with the things that burden His heart. Psalm 25:14 The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant. / Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name." But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.
Life is not about organising our schedules. It is to be filled with the love of God and operating out of that love for people and His creation.
As we delve deeply into His love, which is to fear Him and walk in His ways, His concerns fill our hearts, and we are directed by His Holy Spirit. Deuteronomy 10:12-13 "And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, (13) and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good? / Isaiah 30:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left. / Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
It is the Holy Spirit who gives us the wisdom to make the right choices about every aspect of our lives. We need not be anxious, but rather rejoice in the Lord, for His ways are perfect. Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; (7) and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. / Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.
As Paul and Silas went to the synagogue in Berea, they were being led by the Holy Spirit. Their hearts were filled with God's love for the people. This is the key that we must learn.
The Lord loves us, and He is responsible for every aspect of our lives. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; (6) In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
