22Nov19 - *Exalted for His glory* - _Luke 14:7-11_ - Bible reading: _Proverbs 25:6-7_

_Luke 14:11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."_

Based out of His teaching on hypocrisy, our Lord was now teaching us another crucial aspect of His character, which is the right exaltation.

The Lord desires to exalt each of us in order that our life will be a light to the world. We are here on earth to bring the light of God into a fallen world. We must never lose sight of what God is doing, which is to reconcile a lost creation back to Himself.

Our purpose for seeking to be exalted is not for ourselves. We see this issue experienced in the life of Simon in _Acts 8:9-11 But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great, (10) to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is the great power of God." (11) And they heeded him because he had astonished them with his sorceries for a long time._ Simon wanted to be honoured before people.

_Act 8:18-24 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, (19) saying, "Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit." (20) But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! (21) You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. (22) Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. (23) For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity." (24) Then Simon answered and said, "Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me."_

Peter dealt with the motives of Simon’s heart. Paul explains this problem to us in _Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself._ Do we have a selfish reason for us to be exalted before men? Then it becomes wickedness before God.

Our light must shine before men for which we must be lifted up and placed on a stand. But the purpose for us to be lifted up is to bring His glory into our fallen world. _Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

*Thought to ponder*

```Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.```
