Luke 18 31-34 KNOWING THE THINGS THAT ARE SPOKEN OF HIM 01 Did not seek to know
16Oct2020 - *Did not seek to know* - _Luke 18:31-34_ - KNOWING THE THINGS THAT ARE SPOKEN 1 – Bible reading: _Luke 9:43-45_
The Lord God is reconciling all things back to Himself. Reconciling all things back to Himself, where He is King and we are His subjects. Not only are we His subjects but we are also His vice-regents having dominion over all of His creation in His character and nature_(Genesis 1:26-28; Psalms 8:3-6)_
This was how it all was in the very beginning but the sad story of man and all of God’s creation is the rebellion of man, causing all the sadness in our world, for we were now alienated from God.
In the process of rebelling against God, we thought we were the masters of our lives but we became vassals, a serf, in the hands of satan.
We are now enemies of God, for not only are we vassals of the devil, but we are also in partnership with him, pitted against God (Isn’t that terrible?!). The devil is now executing His rule over man and all of God’s creation, through man as man still holds the executive powers of rule over God’s creation_(Luke 4:5-8; I John 5:19)_.
This is the setting of the bad news that we are under but the good news is that the Saviour has come to do all that is needed to be done, to restore us back to the status in which God is King and we, His subjects and vice-regents of God over all of His creation.
The good news is that God, who is love, came seeking for us, who are His enemies, to reconcile and restore us back to the beautiful relationship and position that we had with Him, in the very beginning.
The Old Testament prophets, prophesied of the plans and purposes of God of setting up His rule over all of His creation but at the same time, explained in detail, that this would necessitate His Son to go to the cross, to pay the ransom for our sin, by giving His life for us.
The Jews were so caught with the coming of the Messiah, the Christ, who would set up His rule and His government. They saw themselves as being central in that plan of God as they were the chosen ones. They chose not to give a thought or seek to know the requirement of the Messiah to go to the cross and pay the penalty for their and man’s sin.
This is the background that we must keep in mind as we now begin the study of _Luke 18:31-34. Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. (32) For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. (33) They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again." (34) But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken._
A concise understanding of the overarching plan of God is explained for us in this passage in _Colossians_. _Colossians 1:19-22 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, (20) and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. (21) And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled (22) in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—_
The Lord explained to the disciples, on several occasions that He would have to go to the cross, to be crucified, buried and to rise the third day.
_Luke 9:21-22 And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one, (22) saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day."_
_Luke 9:43-45 And they were all amazed at the majesty of God. But while everyone marvelled at all the things which Jesus did, He said to His disciples, (44) “Let these words sink down into your ears, for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men." (45) *But they did not understand this saying, and it was hidden from them so that they did not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this saying*._
The disciples did not seek to know, what the Lord was longing to explain to them. Whenever they sought to know … He rejoiced and explained to them the things of the His kingdom.
_Mark 4:10-11 But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. (11) And He said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, Matthew 13:16-17 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; (17) for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it._
_Mark 4:9 And He said to them, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"_
*Thought to ponder*
```Are you seeking to know, understand and participate in His plans and purposes or are you seeking Him for Him to meet your needs?```
