Acts 17 - Series 02/Episode 25 - Mon 02nd Nov 2026 - Oneness - Acts 17:10-15 - MINISTRY IN BEREA - John 17:21-23

Acts 17:15 So those who conducted Paul brought him to Athens; and receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him with all speed, they departed

Paul longed for the company of his friends. He was encouraged and motivated to share the Gospel along with his team. Acts 18:5 When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ.

The Gospel must be shared with the world as the body of Christ. We together are His witnesses in the world. John 17:21-23 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. (22) And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: (23) I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

For the world to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the world must see oneness among the disciples of Christ. As we live out oneness, the glory of the Lord will descend on us. The Lord is expecting us to be perfect in our oneness as His body with the Trinity.

Is oneness possible among us? We have all seen how fragile this oneness has been that we have tried to create. Very soon the oneness disappears, and all the divisions begin to surface. It seems that the devil has been successful in keeping us, as disciples of Christ, divided. What is the solution?

It is only in Christ that we can be one. We must come to Him, empty ourselves, trust Him to take control and witness how He works out oneness through us and among us. This oneness among us is only by faith in Jesus. Galatians 3:26-28 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

We have all been created unique. We do not sacrifice our uniqueness; we appreciate and celebrate each other's distinctiveness and grow together into the character of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-13 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, (12) for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, (13) till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

There is a caution here. Distinctiveness does not mean that we reject God and His word, choose our own individual lifestyle, and expect oneness. The basis for oneness is our common surrender to the Lordship of Christ. Romans 1:20-23 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, (21) because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (22) Professing to be wise, they became fools, (23) and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man-and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

This rejection of God's authority leads people to practise lifestyles contrary to how God created us. Romans 1:24-27 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, (25) who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. (26) For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. (27) Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

Those who reject God but expect to be accepted by society will face the righteous judgment of God. Romans 1:32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. / Romans 2:2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. / Romans 2:5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

We will look more into oneness.
