Abraham, the Father

21st Jun 26 | 18:20

Abraham the Father

(Gen 15:4) And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir."

(Gen 15:5) Then He brought him outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

(Gen 15:6) And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

(Heb 11:8) By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

(Rom 4:16) Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all

(Rom 4:17) (as it is written, "I HAVE MADE YOU A FATHER OF MANY NATIONS") in the presence of Him whom he believed-God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

(Rom 4:18) who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "SO SHALL YOUR DESCENDANTS BE."

(Rom 4:19) And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.

(Rom 4:20) He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

(Rom 4:21) and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

(Rom 4:22) And therefore "IT WAS ACCOUNTED TO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS."

(Gen 12:3) I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

(Gen 17:4) "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.

(Gen 17:5) No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.

Fathers are responsible to nurture families

(Pro 14:1) The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.

Concept of Word, Form, Filling and Flourishing

(Eph 6:4) And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. / (Deu 6:6) "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.

(Deu 6:7) You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Fathers as role models

(1Th 2:10) You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe;

(1Th 2:11) as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children,

Abraham's eyes were on the Lord and not on the material things of life

(Gen 13:8) So Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren.

(Gen 13:9) Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left."

(Gen 13:10) And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.

(Gen 13:11) Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other.

(Gen 13:12) Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom.

(Heb 11:9) By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

(Heb 11:10) for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

(Heb 11:11) By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

(Heb 11:12) Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude-innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

(Col 3:1) If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.

(Col 3:2) Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

(Col 3:3) For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

The obedience of Abraham

(Gen 22:1) Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."

(Gen 22:2) Then He said, "Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

(Gen 22:3) So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

The test of first love

(Gen 22:10) And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

(Gen 22:11) But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" So he said, "Here I am."

(Gen 22:12) And He said, "Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."

Jesus, the seed of Abraham

(Gen 22:18) In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice." / (Luk 1:55) As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever."

The church is the seed of Abraham

(Gal 3:29) And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. / I Peter 2:4-8 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, (5) you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (6) Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHIEF CORNERSTONE, ELECT, PRECIOUS, AND HE WHO BELIEVES ON HIM WILL BY NO MEANS BE PUT TO SHAME." (7) Therefore, *to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient*, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE," (8) and "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE." *They stumble, being disobedient to the word*, to which they also were appointed.
