Acts 16 - Series 01/Episode 11 - Thu, 04th June 2026 - Faith built by the word - Acts 16:01-05 - THE INDUCTION OF TIMOTHY - Romans 10:17
Acts 16:4-5 And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem. (5) So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.
Nourishment with the word of God increases our faith in God. It is in the hearing, understanding and obedience of the word of God that faith in God is built. Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
How can people call upon the Lord about whom they have not heard? How will they hear of whom there was no preacher? Romans 10:13-14 For "WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED." (14) How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
There needs to be preachers of the word of God for people to believe and be saved. Romans 10:15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO PREACH THE GOSPEL OF PEACE, WHO BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD THINGS!"
It is faith in God that gives us salvation. The righteousness of God is revealed through our faith in God. The just live by faith in God. Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (17) For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." This is an ongoing experience of faith in God.
We must be nourished in our souls by the word of God. The pure milk of the word of God strengthens us in our faith in God. I Peter 2:2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, The danger is that if we are not being fed with the word for the growth of our faith, the end will be sad. Luke 18:8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"
It is our purified faith that will give praise and glory to the Lord when He returns. I Peter 1:6-7 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, (7) that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
Man lives by the word of God, not by bread alone. Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD.' "
Bread represents our daily needs. The Lord is our heavenly Father, who knows that we need bread, and He is responsible for providing us with our needs. He desires that we seek Him and His kingdom first. Matthew 6:31-33 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' (32) For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. (33) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
This was the lesson that the Lord taught the Israelites as they crossed the desert. Deuteronomy 8:2-3 And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. (3) So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.
Did they learn the lesson of faith in God? I Corinthians 10:5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. All of this has been written for our warning. I Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
It is therefore necessary for us to be eager to grow in faith through the word of God, for not growing in faith by His word is not an option.
Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
